If you know me and we’ve had a serious discussion about music, you’d know I love bass. Not just drum beats or the manufactured beats that carry most of the hip hop songs these days. I’m talking about a true bass line from a bass guitar. There’s something about it that moves you. It gets into your soul. It strums that inner core that is receptive to things other than words and actions. It literally fills your body, so you’re having a physical experience beyond simple auditory reception.
The song I picked for this Music Monday does exactly that. Its bass line dominates the song, but the melody flirts around it perfectly. Put this on in your headphones or in the car (my favorite place to listen to music), and there’s no way your head won’t be bobbing.
Whenever I feel angry or overwhelmed, I tend to turn this song on. It’s my angry song. I usually end up getting lost in the song and by the end, I feel considerably better. Not a sure fix for everyone, I’m sure, but it’s worth a try! I always appreciate a song I can listen to repeatedly – okay, obsessively – and not get tired of. I’ve been listening to this song since I was in college, and it’s still going strong in my playlist.
Side note: This is a very unique video. Often times, I prefer listening to my music without visual representations. It leaves more to your own imagination. However, I included it so you have a link to the song posted by those who have copyright over it.
